Chesapeake – William Jackson Benton, Sr., 92 of Haywood Ave passed away March 5, 2016. Benton aka “Rudy” and “Sweet William” was born in South Norfolk to the late Isaac H. Benton, Sr. and Bessie Casteen Benton. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army. Benton later retired as a supervisor with Texas Oil Company, then worked for his son at Boone’s Quality TV for fifteen years. He was a member of Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church, South Norfolk Ruritan Club and was a loyal member of the Creekmore Hardware Coffee Club.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 64 years, Janet Johnson Benton; son, William “Billy” Jackson Benton, Jr. and his wife, Karen; daughter, Bonnie B. Rasmussen and her husband, Monte; grandchildren, Bryan and his wife, Sandy, Greg and his wife Sarah, Danielle and her husband, Dustin and Jeff; and 5 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 11 am at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. The family would like to thank the loving people at Grace Hospice for their compassionate care of Benton in his final months.
