Norfolk – Thomas “Tommy” Warren White, Jr, born October 20, 1949 in Norfolk, VA passed away on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22, 2018 at home with his loving wife Cecelia White at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Warren White, Sr. and Helen May White and brother Paul William White.
Tommy was a 1968 graduate of Norfolk Catholic High School. He began his career as an apprentice at NORSHIPCO Norfolk Shipbuilding and Drydock Corporation and closed as a Project manager with Kalmar Global. He was a member of the South Norfolk Ruritan Club.
He loved the outdoors and shared this love with his family and friends. He hiked the Appalachian Trail, mountain biked in Alaska and in Italy with his wife Cecelia. His enthusiasm for cycling was so infectious that the family began an Annual Family bike trip on the Virginia Rails to Trails.
Tommy enjoyed the companionship of many, cherished deep lasting friendships and made a difference in the lives of those he touched. His expansive knowledge of so many things was shared freely and generously. He desired to make the world a better more comfortable place so he volunteered with his church community and various organizations. He especially loved building homes with Habitat for Humanity.
Continuing to cherish his memory are his children, Erin Creath (Patrick), Lauren Powell (Michael), James Renn Jr, Matthew White (Theresa), Noah Renn (Leslie), Dominique Williams (Steve), Dane White (Carly); his grandchildren, Skye, Amber, Morgan, Jacob, Gabriel, Brandon, Dominic, Kylie, Carmen, James III, Josie, Breana, Cyrus, Kellan; his six sisters, Helen White, Sister Maureen White, SNDdeN, Jesse Gagne (James), Jean Partain (John), Margaret Holland (Victor) and Rose Kennedy (Donald).
Tommy was a devout Catholic, a member of St. Pius X Catholic Community, a godly Christian man who sought the Lord and modeled this behavior every day of his life. A viewing will be held at HD Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23517 on Thursday from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at St Pius X, 7800 Halprin Drive, Norfolk, VA 23518 at 11:00 AM.
