James “Jimmy” Alton Franks, 72, passed away June 16, 2020. He was born in Nansemond County, Virginia the son of the late Florence Norfleet Lassiter and John Alton Franks. Jimmy was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Franks and his aunt and uncle, Cornelia N. and Raymond L. Babb whom he considered his second parents. Jimmy served in the National Guard from 1966-1972. He was the Owner/Operator of James Franks General Hauling and a retired Real Estate Assessor for over 30 years with the City of Newport News. Jimmy was a member of the Suffolk Ruritans and was a Past President and Chairman of the Shrimp Feast. He was also a member of the Progressive Club and a former Elks Lodge member.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Carol Darden Franks; daughter, Brianne Franks Reedy (Mike); son, Brandon Franks (Jennifer); grandchildren, Christian, Gavin, Brynlee; sister, Cindy Grefe (Charles); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, June 19, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk, VA 23435 with Rev. Allen Lancaster officiating. Jimmy will be available for viewing at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434 on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. during that time with social distancing encouraged.
